This weekend we headed over to the River Trail nature Center. There we had a nice speaker who taught us all about why OWLS are amazing creatures. We learned that they used to make farmers scared due to the strange noises they make in the middle of the night. But they learned to love them since they hunt mice and rats that could destroy there crops.
We also learned that their eyes are extra large to see at night. If our eyes were that big they would be like grapefruit in our heads.
The great horned owl has feathers that look like horns to scare away predators.
Owls can turn their heads 270 degrees because they have 14 bones in their necks instead of the 7 that humans have.
The Owl is a raptor due to the large and sharp claws that they have.
